One thing to point out: at least with Reaper is it the case, that you should run everything ( Host and ALL VSTs ) based on the apple silicon versions, if you do so, or then turn otherwise towards the Intel versions for everything. Those builds are coming a long nicely, a first beta should be available in a few weeks. Thats to my understanding not a win for any common GP3 usage.Ĭorrect me somebody if i´m wrong on anything ( GP3 using “just” one core “per instance”, for example)

I´ve not followed it any longer, but the next upcoming macs have to my knowledge no bigger single core speed, just more cores, and probably more GPU cores. ( again, thats where my understanding is…the developers are here a bit picky on the wordings one would use it seems / …i see the reason, though ) ( i use NO sample based instruments for example)īut i would recommend to take 16GB of Ram anyway, if funds allow.įor GP3 alone, you want to look at the single core speed. I have 8GB RAM on my M1mini and i´m personally fine with that. People run the M1MBA into its cooling/overheating limits by loading 100 audio tracks…etc. The todays MacBookAirM1 is allready perfectly fine…you don´t run it into any overheating and then throttling down just with Gigperformer alone. GP3 when taking a mac, bigger than the todays macbook air M1 or M1mini. I´d say, you win nothing in regards to CPU power vs. īut: GP3 runs (thats how i still understand it ) on just one core (per open instance) The upcoming MBP will have more efficiency cores ( afaik). The todays M1macs have 8 cores, 4 efficiency cores, and 4 performance cores. The new Mac Book Pro that will come out in a few months will be very very good but also very very expensive (I think something like 2700€ minimum). They are smaller and lighter, and could give you a basic view, while a big nice monitor at home could be used for most of the “house work” I was tempted to try one of those before I moved to my current setup. Usually some change where the director didn’t like the patch even when it matches what’s in the book. If something came up and I needed some changes, I didn’t want to be without it. I never dared travel without a monitor. There are some workarounds with a “fake” screen dongle item, but it can be a bit tricky/annoying. The Mac Mini has this … annoying … quirk where it has some issues with remote display if a monitor isn’t plugged in. You say you would try the iPad as a remote screen for the Mac Mini.Depending on your setup, it can be harder to find somewhere to put the Mac Mini (and parts). All the cables for that just were more of a mess. I had to haul in the Mac Mini, a mouse, keyboard and monitor. The Mac Mini is harder to haul around and setup.Since switching to Gig Performer, I switched to a Windows laptop.
